Kruiken ???

The Kruikentreffen is organised bij MC’T’Motrorijerke based in Tilburg, but why KRUIKEN treffen? (treffen stands for rally so what is KRUIKEN?
Well, the word “kruiken” in our rallyname associates us with the history of Tilburg.
In the 19th and 20th century the Wool industry was the most important one of the city, most of the people from Tilburg worked in one of its factory’s.
Before the introduction of chemical substances urine ( Zeik in dutch) was used to clean and wash the wool.
Factory workers earned a small penny by bringing the family pis to work in the morning.
They used ceramic jars (stone bottles) to collect and transport it, in Dutch we call these jars KRUIKEN.
So that’s why Tilburgers are called Kruikenzeikers (something like jarpissers) and therefor our rally is called Kruikentreffen.
Het kruikentreffen wordt georganiseerd door MC 't Motorrijerke uit Tilburg, maar waarom KRUIKEN treffen?
De "kruiken" uit ons treffen associeert ons met het verleden van Tilburg.
In de 19e en 20e eeuw was de wollen stoffen industrie de belangrijkste van de stad, veel Tilburgers werkte in een van de vele fabrieken.
Voor de opkomst van de chemische industrie werd urine (zeik) gebruikt om de ruwe wol te bewerken, fabrieksmedewerkers kregen een kleine vergoeding als ze s’morgens hun pis van het gezin meenamen naar hun werk, hiervoor gebruikte zij stenen kruiken.
Sinds de dag van vandaag heeft “de Tilburger” de bijnaam KRUIKENZEIKER.
